Give Time

Volunteers are a the most valuable resource for the American Red Cross. They compose 95 percent of our workforce. Without our volunteers the Red Cross could not provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Volunteers do very important work including:

  • Responding to local and national disasters
  • Educating the public on disaster preparedness and other important topics
  • Teaching life-saving courses such as CPR, 1st Aid, swimming, life guarding, babysitting and more
  • Helping military families stay in touch during times of crisis
  • Working, setting up and publicizing community blood drives
  • Helping with fundraising and special events
  • Providing leadership and governance on our local Board of Directors
  • Working in the local chapter office
  • Helping with the chapter website
  • Working with Chapter House renovations and organization
  • Working at community events like Auburn CityFest, local Christmas Parades, the Annual United Way campaign, local health fairs and more...

Background Checks Now Required for American Red Cross Service

To maintain the trust of the American people and provide them with the best quality service, all Red Cross employees and volunteers must be background checked. Minimum background checking standards are being implemented across the entire organization so that all future background check results will transfer between Red Cross units.

Beginning in July 2006, Red Cross employees and volunteers must complete a background check prior to employment or registered volunteer service with the Red Cross.  The standard background check consists of a social security verification and a national criminal check.  This is not a credit check or drivers record check.  It is a very simple process that takes just a few minutes to complete online.  We use a national vendor, My Background Check.com, to run the checks through their secure site.  You enter your own information so it remains private.

Do you need to complete your background check to volunteer for or be employed by the American Red Cross?  Click here to complete the check.
