The 4th Annual Harley Davidson give away to benefit the American Red Cross - East Alabama Chapter was held on Saturday, May 21, 2011. This year we gave away a black 2011 Harley Davidson FLHR Road King standard.
The first 500 donors who made a financial gift of $100 or more to the American Red Cross - East Alabama Chapter local general fund between January 21, 2011 and May 21, 2011 were entered into the drawing to win the Harley Davidson. Only 500 tickets were be available.
Donations were made and tickets obtained at Big Swamp Harley Davidson in Opelika,AL; Chattahoochee Harley Davidson in Columbus, GA; and at the American Red Cross office in Opelika, AL.
The drawing began at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, May 21 at Big Swamp Harley Davidson. It was a reverse drawing, meaning that the last ticket drawn was deemed to be the grand prize winner.
Red Cross staff were at Big Swamp Harley Davidson in Opelika throughout the day and the drawing. We had music, food, games and fun for the whole family.
This special donor recognition event is held to reward our donors who support the local operations of the East Alabama Chapter. Donations made to other chapters or programs, national or international funds and programs or national disaster relief funds are not eligible for this special incentive. Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross - East Alabama Chapter.
Previous Drawing Results:
Our first Harley davidson Give Away was held in 2006. That year, Walden Bass of Montgomery, AL was our winner. Bass was excited as he had recently had a motorcycle stolen from him and the brand new Harley was a great replacement and quite a step up from his previous bike!
The next year in 2007, Walden Bass was the first person to make a donation to the Red Cross and get entered into the 2007 drawing. He was present for the event and drove his winnings - a 2006 Harley Davidson Road King - over to show everyone.
Another lucky winner drove away on a brand new Harley Davidson Road King FLHR that day, but it wasn't Bass. Kathryn Guthrie of Opelika could not believe her ears when her number, 107, was the last one called, making her the winner of the grand prize. Walden Bass stayed to the end and congratulated Kathryn on her big win. The two then posed for photos together.
For the 2008 drawing, Walden Bass was also present and his ticket remained in the final five of the drawing. The last ticket drawn was # 295 which belonged to Kohler Collier of Auburn. Collier was not present at the auction but was called and notified minutes after his ticket was drawn. He arranged to be at Big Swamp Harley Davidson the next day when the doors opened to claim his prize.
Which wonderful Red Cross supporter will be rewarded with a 2011 FLHR Road King Standard this year? No one knows, but if you make your donation of $100 or more to our local Red Cross Chapter by May 21, it may be YOU! ___________________________________________________________ |
